While having discolored skin doesn’t damage your health, it may make you feel uncomfortable in your skin and dislike your appearance. There are a number of things that can cause discoloration. Even though it is an aesthetic issue, there are definitely things you can do to help erase skin discoloration and give you a more even skin tone. So here are some steps you can take in order to help get rid of that annoying discoloration.
When you first begin the process of correcting your discolored skin, you should try using a cream to lighten your skin tone. The main ingredient to look for in a cream is glycolic acid; it’s basically a chemical peel. This will get rid of the outermost layer of skin to get down to a more even skin tone after a couple of uses.
Although it’s not likely that you will be able to get rid of discoloration like birthmarks fully, you should be able to lighten them a significant amount if you use it regularly.
Following the cream before, you should also try using a hydroquinone based cream to also help lighten your skin. This cream is basically skin bleach that will significantly lighten your skin if you’re using it often. However, make sure you understand that it will make any area much lighter and sensitive. If you have dark skin and are looking to lighten it drastically, this product should NOT be what you turn to.
This is a step that all of us should be doing anyways, however, most of us don’t. Start using sunscreen daily and make sure it’s at least SPF 15.This is going to protect your skin from getting damaged by the sun that can lead to further skin discoloration. This is especially important if you’re following the previous steps because skin lighteners make your skin more sensitive which makes them easier to be damaged by the sun.
THE FINAL STEP
If you’re not seeing the results you wish for with these products, you may consider cosmetic procedures. Although the alternative is much easier and cheaper. You just have to be able to find the products that work the best for you.
When using creams and skin lightening products, be sure you’re using a moisturizer to help replenish your skin. Use an oil-free moisturizer than works well for your skin type.
Make sure you stay careful using any kind of lightening cream because they do permanently alter your skin tone and make you more at risk for sun damage. Again, don’t use these products if you have dark skin and are looking to lighten it. Don’t go out in the sun unprotected, and stop using these products if your skin becomes irritated.
